This time last year I had been unemployed for 2 years, I was feeling sorry for myself and bored with my life. My son was growing up fast, had his own life and didn't need me as much, I spent a lot of time home alone or spending money I couldn't afford at bingo.
I went to see Doug Bell, who works for the Sheffield City Council Employment Unit, I told him I wanted to get back to work, he informed about the Source Of Your Own Destiny course, he thought it would be perfect for me.
I made an appointment to have a look around The Source, my first impressions were that it looked really posh, I wondered if I would fit in. On the day of the Induction I felt really nervous, I didn't know anyone and I didn't have much confidence but I joined in with the group activities and soon got chatting to my peers.
I found the course to be ideal for me; it combined IT, use of the Gym, personal wellbeing and employability skills. I found the whole package worked really well and helped to improve my confidence, IT skills and Job search techniques.
I am now working as an Administration Officer at a local company. I have changed dramatically since I first started at The Source, I am off benefits, I'm financially better off, I have got more confidence and I feel that I am a better role model for my son, I have even been helping him with his own job hunting and applications.
The only downside of being employed is that I am now unable to use the facilities at The Source Gym because I am so busy!
