Forget Sir Alan, The Source at Meadowhall's very own Nuno DaSilva beat off stiff competition to be crowned the winner of the Business, Administration and Law category at The Celebration of Learning and Skills Awards 2008 (CoLaS). Nuno trod the red carpet with his team and work colleagues and even had a chance to meet Radio and TV personality Fern Cotton.
The CoLaS seek to acknowledge and celebrate young people and their exceptional contributions to the workplace. Judges were looking for apprentices that make a real difference to the organisation they work for by going above and beyond expectations and delivering measurable benefits.
Nuno has worked in The Source Conference Department since 2005 and during this time has completed a Business Administration Apprenticeship level 2 and 3.
A delighted Nuno said "I'm so ecstatic just to be nominated, but to be the overall regional winner is amazing. The competition was really strong from the other nominees so when they called out my name I couldn't believe it. It was a great night that all my friends and family were able to see. Receiving the award has to be the biggest highlight, particularly because Fern Cotton presented it me!"
Nuno's manager, Mike Denby, said "The whole business is so pleased with the news of Nuno's award win. With the help of his colleagues, his assessor and his own determination, Nuno has become a very professional member of The Source team. I'm really proud of him. The award has only confirmed to me that he's going to progress into a very successful young business man, the world is his oyster."
The Oscar style ceremony was a first for the region with over 1000 guests enjoying a spectacular ceremony at the Harrogate International Centre on 16 April 2008. The region's business leaders joined key employers, politicians, journalists, representatives from education and the families and friends of the nominees for an evening of entertainment and recognition of achievement.
