Merry Christmas - a Message from our Director
Merry Christmas - a Message from our Director
15th December 2011

This year, we have seen significant changes and developments across the region for The Source. Not only have we considerably grown our team but we have launched two new hubs, won various awards and unveiled our new charity shop.

1st July saw the launch of The Source Skills Academy Rotherham, a brand new site based in the heart of Rotherham Town Centre designed to offer advice, guidance and training services to increase skills levels and to support trade in the town centre. This was shortly followed by the unveiling of the Sheffield Hub on 23rd September a new venture that provides a hub of guidance and advice for local individuals and businesses. Both sites have allowed us to offer more dedicated support to individuals and businesses in both Sheffield and Rotherham.

We have grown our community programme and enhanced our training offer to reach out to new markets with the Work Programme and 100 Apprenticeship schemes, both designed to support individuals into employment.

In addition, we have been recognised with several awards, including Employer of the Year at the Sheffield Star Business Awards and two Business in the Community Awards. Our learners have also been recognised with a wide range of awards, including Apprentice of the Year and HR Training Professional of the Year at The Retail Week Rising Star Awards. These achievements are great recognition for both our teams and our learners.

Our staff have also been busy fundraising throughout 2011, raising over £1000 for various charities including WORK Limited, Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice and Children In Need.

Our Sheffield Showcase project has also gone from strength to strength in the last 12 months and we have supported over 26 Retail Apprentices through their qualifications and helped them find positions in the retail industry since the project launched in 2009.

We also launched our brand new Charity Shop First In Best Dressed, an innovative idea to support local charities. First in Best Dressed, based on Cambridge Street, aims to develop apprentices by giving them practical experience of running a business as well as raising money for local charities. A number of charities will each gain for three months from the shop's profits. Council Leader and supporter of the project, Julie Dore unveiled First in Best Dressed on Friday 9th September.

Overall 2011 has been an exciting year for The Source and 2012 is set to be even better. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers and partners for your continued support throughout the year and wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas.
