The Source's Sheffield Showcase Project has scooped two awards at the Sheffield City Council Celebration of Success Awards.
The Awards have been established to recognise outstanding achievement within Learning and contribution to the ‘Every Child Matters' Act. The Source's visual merchandising project, Sheffield Showcase has been recognised with two awards and celebrated this achievement at the event on 29th April at Sheffield City Hall.
The eight Visual Merchandising Apprentices at the Sheffield Showcase were awarded ‘City Award Winners' and were presented with their certificates by Chief Superintendant Simon Torr, celebrating a group of young people who have worked beyond the school or organisation to achieve more together.
David Webber, Visual Merchandising Manager at The Source, received a Contribution Award from the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Councillor Graham Oxley, celebrating an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the life of that organisation or group of children and young people who are the focus of their work.
David Webber said: "It is a fantastic achievement for the Sheffield Showcase team. We are all honoured to have been nominated for the awards by our peers and especially to have been rewarded for our work. We are extremely proud of our Apprentices and how they improve their skills and use their creativity to improve the look of the city centre whilst also supporting local businesses."
The Celebration of Success is an annual event at which we celebrate the aspirations, achievements and successes of children and young people and the contributions made by the many older young people and adults who support them in school, in their communities and in their lives.
The programme includes presentation of the awards interspersed with entertainment from children and young people.
Dr Sonia Sharp, Executive Director of Sheffield City Council's Children and Young People's Service could not attend the event as she was delayed from Australia due to the ash cloud, however sent a video link saying: "This is the city's way of thanking those who dedicate their lives to helping young people. It's a really special occasion that recognises your hard work. Thank you for all that you do for our young people."
