Beanz Means Kind
Beanz Means Kind
30th October 2009

Mike Denby, Business Communication Manager at The Source has this week made a bizarre donation of over 300 tins of Baked Beans to the Manor Lodge Sheltered Accommodation Centre in Rotherham.

Mike Denby won 365 tins of baked beans on a TV game show in the summer of 2009. A Rotherham resident himself Mike wanted to make sure his win would go to a good home.

Mike said "I'm really happy that the residents accepted my offer of the beans. I was apprehensive that they would think it was a practical joke. I chose the residents of Manor Lodge because this is where my grandparents lived and many of the residents and staff looked out for them whilst they were alive. I'm sure my grandparents would approve of my choice."

Pat Henshaw, Resident Warden for the elderly at Manor Lodge said "Many of the residents still remember Mike and when I told them I'd got the call they all laughed and were looking forward to the delivery. It was a very unusual and unexpected call, I must admit! I just hope the residents have enough cupboard space to fit them all in."

The beans will be delivered to Manor Lodge Sheltered Accommodation Centre and distributed to all the residents during the forthcoming week.

Sue Ludlam, resident at Manor Lodge said "It looks like I will be having beans on toast tomorrow for my breakfast along with one or two others."
