Michelle lost a lot of confidence after splitting up with her husband. She had worked in retail but gave up her job when her son, now aged 3, was born. Michelle's ambition was to work in an office but because of her recent life experiences she lacked the crucial confidence and direction. 

Her Jobcentre Lone Parent Adviser told her about Source of Your Own Destiny, a training opportunity for people in Sheffield who want to get back into work.

Michelle's 12-week work placement was in Human Resources, the department which recruits for Social Service roles, at Sheffield City Council. This was a very supportive and friendly environment and Michelle was quick to impress her supervisors with her enthusiasm and initiative.

In December she successfully applied for a job in another Social Services department, as Business Support Officer. And after just five months she was given the opportunity to become Acting Payments Officer - a higher admin grade!

Michelle said "When she first started the programme I had no confidence in myself or my abilities. Since then I have come a long way. I have lost weight, received awards for computer skills, and got a job at Sheffield City Council."
